FOSDEM Day 1

 Posted on February 8, 2009 |  1 minutes |  FOSDEM |  willsheward

A quick report from day 1 of FOSDEM. The Dev room was packed for virtually every session (standing room only as you can see from a selection of pictures below) and every talk, despite problems with the FOSDEM wi-fi, was well received. We’ll hopefully post short summaries of the talks at a later date once the speakers have recovered from their hangovers and/or stopped eating bacon. Welcome to the fifth roundup of XMPP activity worldwide. This report is authored by Nicolas Vérité, Laurent Lathieyre and Jack Moffitt. This is a very long article since we had a lot of activity these weeks. Your contributions are welcome for future roundups. XMPP Roundup 4

 Posted on December 2, 2008 |  1 minutes |  XMPP Roundup |  willsheward

Is There a New Successor to SIP? Is XMPP is set to overthrow SIP as the VoIP signaling king? Tsahi Levent-Levi, a system architect at RADVISION, thinks it’s a possibility. **Codebits 2008 ** XSF Member Pedro Melo has posted the content of his “XMPP - Hands On” presentation at Codebits 2008 (a Portuguese event hosted by Portuguese Telecoms company Sapo.pt ). The presentation itself is in Portuguese, the code accompanying it is, obviously, not :-) [Read More]

XMPP Roundup 3

 Posted on November 18, 2008 |  1 minutes |  XMPP Roundup |  willsheward

In a relatively slow week for XMPP-related news: Deadline Web Worker Daily, amongst others, reported on the launch of ‘Deadline’ a web-based reminder service with a plain english interface which uses email and XMPP IM to send reminders of appointments and tasks. FriendFeed FriendFeed co-founder Bret Taylor joined the Gilmore Gang podcast to talk about their release of XMPP realtime services. The podcast is worth a listen, with the XMPP specific discussions starting at 15:30 into the show. [Read More]

XMPP Roundup 2

 Posted on November 10, 2008 |  2 minutes |  XMPP Roundup |  willsheward

This is the second in what we hope will be a regular (perhaps even weekly) roundup of blog posts, announcements, and news stories relating to and featuring XMPP. The roundup is compiled by trawling through Google News Alerts for occurrences of ‘XMPP’ and is most definitely not comprehensive. If you are aware of items this roundup of the past week’s news has missed or wish to submit posts of your own, then please contact any member of the Board. [Read More]

Draft Privacy and Security Policy

 Posted on October 20, 2008 |  1 minutes |  Miscellaneous |  stpeter

Among other things, the XSF runs the jabber.org IM service, which is one of the largest nodes on the open XMPP network (yes, we really do believe in running code!). However, we’ve never had a privacy and security policy for this service. Recently we’ve been working to define such a policy so that folks who use the service know exactly where they stand. A draft of the policy is located at https://xmpp. [Read More]
